Missions, a lot of times, is not a smooth paved road. Rather it is a road full of holes. We must learn how to NAVIGATE MISSIONS!

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:4-5 NIV

Moses had a powerful experience with God at the burning bush. There were miracles at the burning bush. There was revelation at the burning bush. There were signs and wonders at the burning bush. There was HOLY GROUND! Wow! We all want this in our own personal lives and our ministries. A place in our life that God talks with us personally! A place that God reveals Himself through signs and wonders to the people! Awesome! Holy ground!

Many times, instead, we find ourselves on the holey ground. Yes, HOLEY… as in “full of holes.” Many times I have walked down dirt roads in rural Romania to visit a home group. The cover photo of this story shows one of those times. The road was not comfortable! I have driven down roads so full of potholes that I thought the car would fall apart from underneath me. Holey ground!

Many times I have gone to visit someone expecting something amazing to happen! On the phone, they were so eager for us to share the Gospel with them. Before church, they were so eager to get baptized in Jesus name. All of a sudden, though, a hole; a pitfall swallowed up what I thought was so secure. Holey ground!

That is missions for you. That is people for you. Should we quit? Should we not even try? I encourage you to NEVER lose faith in the Holey Ground! God works on HOLEY GROUND! Miracles happen! Revelation happens! Signs and Wonders happen on HOLEY GROUND!

You do not have to be perfect or even have to feel that you are perfect! Moses was not perfect and definitely was not the most confident guy.

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you… Exodus 3:11-12a NIV

I am glad Moses did not let what was uncomfortable to him distract him from going on a missions trip! Even after saying in verse 13, “Please send someone else,” he went to Egypt and God used him to deliver the Israelites. Never underestimate the impact you can make.

Moses answered the call! He said, “Here I am.”

Lesson 1: You must be willing to go!

God empowered Moses for the mission! He said, “I will be with you.”

Lesson 2: God will go with you!

So… who wants to walk on HOLEY GROUND?

God doesn’t confirm personalities, but he confirms His Word with signs following. – Mark Shutes
